So while I anxiously sat trying to fill my day with activities in anticipation of a phone call that never came, Elly was busy making friends, playing, listening, speaking up for herself and conquering her first day of school.
Yes there were some tears at the beginning and even a few after her nap. But in the end she did it and aced it with flying colours. She told the teacher when she had to pee, she apparently knew her friends by name, something most adults wouldn't have been able to do in a morning. She was seen playing with friends in the play ground and apparently carrying on a conversation with some of them - seriously. She ate well, slept fine until another kid crying woke her up. But then proceeded to lay awake for an hour on her bed without stirring or anything.
I got two phone calls today with updates on how she was doing, which were both VERY, VERY much appreciated and even better when they came with good news.
I have no regrets for Elly's time in home day care. I fully believe it was a good transition for her and I into being apart. There isn't a shadow of a doubt though that the introduction of this school is even better for this time in her life. I think she is going to outgrow the toddler room very quickly and she is going to really enjoy the preschool room in two months when she moves up. She is currently the second oldest in the class and is the same size as the smallest kids who are a year or more younger then her.
Overall the day was a success and it's nice to have my nerves settle.
